CPS changed its name

Explain that CPS changed its name to DCS.

Under 18 years old

If the victim is under 18 years old – call DCS.

Over 18 years old

If the victim is 18 years old or older – call APS.

Native American

If the victim is a member of the San Carlos Apache tribe,
call both DCS and also Tribal Social Services.

If the abuse happened outside of Arizona

If the child was abused…
and the abuse happened in a state other than Arizona…
you have to call the child abuse hotline in that state.

For example.
Let’s say, 4 years ago, a girl was living with her parents in Arizona.
Her parents took her on a family vacation to Florida. While she was in Florida, she was sexually abused. The girl is now living in Globe-Miami. You just found out about the abuse. Since the abuse occurred in Florida, you have to call the child abuse hotline in Florida.

Let’s say, 3 years ago, a boy was living with his bio mother and bio father in Colorado. While in Colorado, the boy was physically abused by his bio father. Mom left dad, then moved to Arizona. The boy is now living in Globe-Miami. You just found out about the abuse. Since the abuse occurred in Colorado, you have to call the child abuse hotline in Colorado.
